Again and again, I hear people say, “I don’t make resolutions! That way I don’t set myself up for failure!”
This is both unfortunate and sad. We have been gifted so much in our lives to both create for ourselves and, if we are already awesomely happy, we have the ability to serve those who have less or are struggling by being a good success role model. There is an abundance of opportunity and wealth just waiting for us to say “Yes!”. So few feel confident, worthy or know how to go for more. We tell ourselves we are selfish for wanting more so we settle for mediocrity.
But how do you start? Where do you find help?
First, it’s about Who you know, and What you know.
It’s been said that we are the average self worth of the 5 people we associate our time and energy investment in. That is true of the shows you watch, the books you read and the things you listen to on a day to day, moment to moment basis.
So, if you want to have healthy relationships, surround yourself with people who have good marriages and/or happy relationships.
You want to grow your wealth? Put yourself around people who have values and insight about how to use time, money and energy to grow their wealth.
Want to have better health? Hang out with people who exercise, eat healthy and make their health a priority.
We are influenced by what and who we hang out with, so choose strategically.
Avoid complaining, gossiping and negativity. People who put time and energy into limitations distract themselves and waste time and energy that could be put into solving problems and creating solutions.
Instead, use your mind, time and energy to develop these 3 tips below.
What do you want and who is a living example of your values, goals and dreams? If you want to Live the Dream, put yourself in environments with people who are living their dreams. Read books, watch movies/shows and listen to podcasts that help you grow and be inspired. Step outside your comfort zone to meet the people and spend time in the environments that will help you grow.
#2 Get a Mentor/Coach or Buddy system
It’s much easier to stay the course and succeed if you have someone who is invested in going the distance with you. Find a group or friends who want the same thing as you. Join a club, a gym, or start training with someone to build both accountability and gain skills to stay the course.
#3 Set up a Plan to succeed
Once you have your Goal in mind, you’ll need to commit to a time when you want to arrive at your destination. Just like planning travel holidays, you will need a map and a mode of transportation to get you to your destination. What route will you take to get there and what’s your vehicle to help you travel? This is one of the most important aspects of success that most people have no idea on how to create. We pray that we win a lottery or a fairy godmother will help us. The truth is, we have to take action and build skills to stay on path and this is one of the hardest, yet most rewarding skills we can learn. Hire someone who can help you! After all, no athlete makes it to the Olympics without a coach.
May 2020 be your most visionary decade yet! Give yourself permission to go for your dreams! Take an action and find the help you need to succeed.
